Your First App in Bolt.new
A first prototype should prove one understandable, clickable workflow. Login, payments, administration, analytics, permissions and dashboards in the first prompt usually obscure the main task.
A booking page, to-do list, FAQ search or simple dashboard can be enough when it connects one input action to visible feedback.
#Define the boundary
Write what the first version proves and what it excludes. Unstated exclusions leave the system to guess.
textBuild a booking page prototype. Stack: React + Tailwind. Data: local mock data only. Features: create booking, list bookings, cancel booking. Constraints: mobile-first, no auth, no backend. Acceptance: user can create one booking and see it in the list.
#Check function before appearance
Can it open? Does the primary workflow complete? Can you explain the file structure? Many pages and buttons do not compensate for an unclear user path.
#Diagnose before rewriting
Missing dependencies, incomplete generated files, environment variables or an overly broad previous edit can break a prototype.
textExplain the cause first. List the files you need to change. Fix with minimal changes. Do not rewrite the whole project.
#Keep the second round narrow
Choose interaction states such as validation/loading/empty, or code organization such as component extraction. Refine visuals later rather than combining structure, styling, state and deployment in one round.
Give the prototype to someone unfamiliar with it. If they cannot explain its purpose and next action within a minute, simplify the main path.
