ChatGPT Prompt Framework
A request such as “write a summary” or “analyze this product” may produce plausible text, but leaves too many decisions undefined. Treat the prompt as a task brief that reduces variation.
#Include these fields
- Role or usage context.
- Task objective.
- Intended audience.
- Output format.
- Tone.
- Constraints and exclusions.
#Example brief
textRole: act like an experienced content editor. Task: write a Xiaohongshu post about AI resume optimization. Audience: career switchers preparing for job search. Tone: direct and trustworthy, not overly salesy. Output: title + 3 key points + one CTA question, within 300 Chinese characters. Constraint: do not use generic hype phrases.
The example intentionally requests a Chinese-language social post. Its useful feature is the defined audience, objective, style and constraints—not its length.
#Common failures
- Asking for a large amount of content without defining its purpose.
- Using “more sophisticated” or “more attractive” without observable criteria.
- Combining incompatible requirements.
#A more reliable approach
Provide a real usage situation, an explicit structure, information that must remain and expressions that must be excluded. These constrain a draft more effectively than “make it professional.”
