Runway Prompt Framework

Write an explicit shot brief with a clear subject, action, environment, camera, style and duration.

text
subject + action + environment + camera + style + duration
text
A founder walks through a modern coworking space, camera slowly pushes in, soft daylight, cinematic startup ad style, 4-second clip, 16:9

#Define the variables

Specify a particular person/product rather than “someone” or “a product.” Describe an action such as turning to camera, opening a laptop or walking past a storefront. Establish whether the setting is an office, studio, street, classroom or product set.

For camera direction, choose an appropriate static frame, pan, push-in, tracking shot or close-up. Limit the style to a few compatible terms. A short first pass is easier to review.

#Use existing references

Where supported, reference images/video can anchor the result more directly than repeated textual guessing.

#Avoid competing goals

A prompt overloaded with premium, cinematic, viral, futuristic and branding demands lacks priorities. Style without action can become an attractive but inert image. Omitting ratio/use case leaves framing undefined.

#Team brief

Keep required and optional details distinct so revisions remain reviewable.
