Runway Video Editing

Existing footage, reference clips, stills and rough cuts can be more useful starting points than generating every shot from nothing.

#Define the editing target

Are you adding a missing shot, replacing a background, unifying style, animating a still or refining a rough visual? Each calls for a different strategy.

#Test a short section

Use a three- to five-second sample to inspect subject stability, natural motion and continued style. A full-length pass magnifies problems already visible in the sample.

#Repair a production gap

Useful edits make inconsistent assets fit together, fill an empty shot, restore visual continuity or adapt footage to a campaign. Effects alone do not establish usefulness.

The source lists Video to Video, Expand Video, Lip Sync, audio generation and Act One as examples of relevant tools. Verify what your current account/model supports before depending on a particular feature.

#Retain production records

Keep original assets, a record of each editing goal, versioned exports and usable prompts/reference frames.

#Know when to move to an editor

Generation, shot repair and visual enhancement can happen in the supported Runway tools. Precise timelines, multi-track audio, complex captions/transitions and final commercial finishing belong in an appropriate nonlinear editor such as Premiere or another established team tool.
